I don't know the particulars of your situation, nor how long you intend to be on a medical mission, but if it is less than a year, I'd say forget it. The missions effort is better served by sending the money you would spend to real missionaries - that is, those with a long-term commitment in the "field" - and supporting one or more of them monetarily instead.

Quickie missions tripping has become an evangelical fad over the last decade. I discourage it because it diverts money from missionaries and gives kids an excuse for a two-week vacation in some exotic place, like Belize. Don't get me wrong. You might be an exception. But if you aren't, please consider the above advice. Thanks.
