I think (correct me if I'm wrong, someone) that even very conservative AC's apply that silence thing only to formal church services, and then only for a formal teaching capacity. Our sisters can't serve as ministers or adult bible class teachers, but are free to expound in bible class or any other church meeting where the brothers can, and can lead bible studies in some other settings. Thanks brother Tsu: At least I think you are a brother and not a sister. I don't want to offend. The head covering, women teaching, keeping silent in the church is a subject we have been studying in the Church of Christ I am presently attending. It was mentioned in another post in another thread about what is the proper place for women, so I was curious as to what the ACC teaches in this regard. I sincerely apoligize and ask your forgiveness. If I put the shoe on the other foot and read that post, I can see how it may have appeared unkind. The truth is, however, I would like an answer. I would like to know how this is interpreted by ACC women. It is sometimes very difficult to know who is a sister and who is a brother on this discussion board. especially when a person is identified only by a number. It is very obvious what Jesus thought of women. They even supported His ministry, It was a woman who anointed Him with costly perfume for His burial, they were first at the empty tomb and first to see and speak with the resurrected Lord. This subject doesn't seem to be discussed much on these boards or in personal conversations, in my experience (although I've been known to bring it up). I just wanted to let you know that there are ACCN sisters who believe the Bible does allow women to teach and lead men, women and children. There just aren't very many of us. river

So you think women can be Elders, Preachers etc. I've got to hear how you can make a case for this position using ONLY scripture.

I am prretty dumb on computer use, but, you can find it by googling, Frank Viola, under present testamony ministry, home page. He has a section on "Articles". You will find it on the list. It is titled, "Now concerning a woman's roll in the church, an open letter. If you do, and know how to post it here for others to read, it may be helpful. If you don't want to post it because you think it is wrong, thats your business, but I thought it was very thought provoking. God Bless Giant Slayer

And I do not permit a woman to teach or to have authority over a man, but to be in silence. For Adam was formed first, then Eve. And Adam was not deceived, but the woman being deceived, fell into transgression. (1 Timothy 2:11-14) Can someone explain why Timothy said that a woman couldn't teach a man, and then gave his reason for that as being because Adam was not deceived? I mean, if Adam wasn't deceived, then the logical conclusion is that he sinned on purpose. But because the woman was deceived, she fell into transgression (definition: violation of a law)? Why wasn't Adam in transgression? And even despite all that, what does Adam's or Eve's sin have to do with women teaching men? And I found these scriptures (NLT) in defense of women teaching men: Acts 18:26 When Priscilla and Aquila heard him preaching boldly in the synagogue, they took him aside and explained the way of God more accurately. (A woman plainly instructing a man) Colossians 3:16 Let the words of Christ, in all their richness, live in your hearts and make you wise. Use his words to teach and counsel each other. (Notice here that it says to "counsel each other"...not "only men should do any counseling") 1 Corinthians 14:26 Well, my brothers and sisters, let's summarize what I am saying. When you meet, one will sing, another will teach, another will tell some special revelation... (No specification on who's to teach, and since the greeting is to "brothers AND sisters", it implies equal opportunity to sing, teach, etc.) Philippians 4:2-3 And now I want to plead with those two women, Euodia and Syntyche...to help these women, for they worked hard with me in telling others the Good News. (pretty obvious what's implied here) Romans 16:1 Our sister Phoebe, a deacon in the church in Cenchrea, will be coming to see you soon. (I think that's self-explanatory). Now I'll be honest, I prefer male preachers for the simple reason that I think most females sound a little screechy behind the microphone. Male voices are just more aesthetically pleasing. Marley
